...an urban survival guide

...please and thank you.

Intro

Welcome to rubyslist.org! As of 08/15/24, this site has been live for about a week. rubyslist is a reorganized collection of spreadsheets I’ve maintained for years as my personal homeless resource day planners. I’m also working on guides for other service categories not yet covered here.

I started this project in mid-July, just after celebrating my first year sober in three decades. This year, I focused on healing my mind, body, and spirit, and I’m happier and healthier than ever! I needed a year to prepare before diving into new projects, and this feels like a great start.

My vision is to create a user-driven platform that gives the outdoor population a voice in their advocacy and serves as a guide for the angels doing the real humanitarian work, based on community feedback.

Work

  • Database Upgrade: moving data from Google Sheets to a proper database for dynamic, personalized guides and better scalability.
  • Mass Email: updating information and sharing it at events. User registration will allow angels to update their events.
  • Angelside Interface: under construction as a toolkit for providers and a relief map for coordination.
  • Venice Boardwalk: planning to offer coffee and breakfast. Thursday mornings?

Help

$$$

This project started with my personal funds, specifically my final GR cash benefits for the year. I no longer qualify for these benefits. Here’s the breakdown:

    • Laptop: Bought a used Chromebook for $35.
    • Domain: rubyslist.org cost $12.99/year; renews at $18 next August.
    • Web Hosting: Hostinger trialed at $17 for a month. 1-year renewal for $36 if purchased before 08/04.
    • Software: Free tools work, but more advanced features are behind paywalls. I anticipate needing paid tools as the site grows.
  • Other: Your donations will help me take care of basic needs while applying my time/energy to this project.

Thanks for listening!
